Kwoklyn Wan

As a 3rd Generation Restaurateur and Chef, the call of the kitchen was always strong for Kwoklyn Wan; his Grandfather opened the very first Chinese Restaurant, The Hung Lau, in Leicester in 1962 and then his father opened the very first Cantonese Restaurant, The Bamboo House, again in Leicester in 1978. Nearly 40 years later, Kwoklyn can regularly be seen sharing his passion for all things mouth-wateringly tasty; in written articles, interviews and appearances on National Radio, live demonstrations at food festivals and on TV; joining Phil & Holly on ‘This Morning’, presenting for BBC 1 Inside Out and Channel 5 as well as more recently appearing on and being recruited as a regular chef for C4 ‘Steph’s Packed Lunch’ and being featured in the South China Morning Post, to name but a few.

With 3 cookbooks achieving almost instant worldwide recognition and success and holding the top of the Amazon charts since their subsequent releases, Kwoklyn’s Chinese Takeaway Cookbook, the Veggie Chinese Takeaway Cookbook and Chinese Takeaway in 5 are available in the UK, Europe, US & Australia as well as having been specifically translated for distribution in the Netherlands & Estonia.

With such a delicious lineage and personality capable of enticing even the most unadventurous eaters to try something new, we can expect to see much more of Kwoklyn on screens the world over.

The launch of ‘Kwoklyn’s Chinese Takeaway Kitchen’ Series 1 on Amazon Prime in the UK & USA in February 2021, hit the screens to the delight of eagerly awaiting viewers with recent calls for further distribution to the screens of Hong Kong, Germany, India & Japan.

Kwoklyn is also a qualified Sifu in the art of Jeet Kune Do (Kung Fu). Having studied the form since the age of 4 and training with some of the greats under Bruce Lee, he hosted Europe’s largest Martial Arts Show for 5 years running and still continues to teach martial arts at his school in Leicester.

Having been launched as the face of men’s clothing for ‘John Banks Big & Tall Uk’, Kwoklyn can regularly be seen wearing the latest fashions at events and on the road and as a strong advocate for the work of charitable organisations, he also accepted the appointment of Ambassadorial roles to three local charities – LAMP; a mental health support charity based in Leicestershire & Rutland, the ‘Help Us Grieve’ charity, HUG and the Rainbows Hospice for terminally ill children in Leicester.

Keen foodies can keep up to date with Kwoklyn’s adventures on the website www.kwoklynwan.com and YouTube channel ‘Kwoklyn Wan’ and since the Covid-19 lockdown began, Kwoklyn has also hosted social media ‘lives’ across his Instagram and Facebook platforms, including live wok-a-longs on Wednesday lunchtimes for school children to join, followed by an evening session aimed at the adults in isolation.
